Whats the part number of that radio interference pin? I have never seen one of those, need to check if my W123 has them on
I do not know the part number but they definitely came on the cars when they left Mercedes originally. Replacement pins come in the Schaefer wheel bearing kit.
Samo 10 tisuća milja. To je još tvorničko stanje. Takvo nešto vidjeti stvara želju imati ga za sebe i sa njime se ponositi. Problem je novac.
Yes I completely understand cars like this are are not cheap. I wish I could keep a few of them but that's not my business if you know what I mean.
Sve je u tvorničkome stanju pa me čudi zašto je bila zamjena ramena.
What is the "shoulder"?
What were you high side and low side pressures when fully charged?
I'm sorry this was a long time ago. No way I can remember what they were I've done so many cars since then.
Great video! I am working on mine. its an 84, so has the key actuated locking switch. Converted it to the later vacuum actuator switch as you have. Make sense, better to service that than disassembly the entire handle for that switch. They make a part for the 88+ cars that is plastic that goes over the actuator on the door to protect it from water ingress. Got two at junkyard and installed them anyway.
I did not do any conversations. This is the factory setup ;). Thanks for the info about the guard that came on the 88 plus model. I was not aware of this.
Good job ❤
Thank you I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.
Leaving a positive note to boost the youtube algorithm! Thanks a lovely channel! I am also totally inpsired by the type of preventive maintenance you are showing us.
Thank you I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel and thank you for the positive comment.
I would like to have the engine to put on my G wagon 2005 G 500 Mercedes Benz how much it will cost me to swap the engine and just like you said I have like 450 hp 700 lbs torque
I can't give you an exact price but it will cost you thousands and thousands of dollars to do everything correctly.
Can you sell me three cans? I have my 1989 Chevy K1500 with the original R4 compressor and want to use R12 since that what is in it now.
No these are for customer cars. Just look on craigslist
Is this the same car at Gateway Auto in Atlanta. Am I able to purchase it through you to save?!
Yes! Actually the guy that purchased from me is now trying to sell it at gateway because his wife hated the car and cannot get in and out of it comfortably. So you can purchase it from gateway! It's one of the nicest 380SL's on the market we did everything correctly on it! Such a shame his wife doesn't like the car!
Nice ❤

@@woodsandbarclay I'm glad you're making an effort for us. I hope you continue to shine. Thank you,👍👍
Best Sunday with a new video from WAB 🤓 it’s just so satisfying seeing my favorite cars being restored to this condition. I’m doing a complete overhaul to my W123 front suspension now also inspired by your videos. (Torn lower ball joints etc) still happy with the Lemförder quality? I’m debating with my self if I should buy Lemförder or directly from Mercedes…
Lemforder is excellent quality and I'm never had a single issue with them the fit and fitment is great. So glad you're enjoying the videos. Also keep in mind Lemforder was the OEM supplier for Mercedes. Mercedes did not make parts ;)
Do you only use MB engine mounts? Have you used lemforder? I installed lemforder and am not very impressed by them. Thought they would be close to MB quality.
I used Lemforder or MB but lemforder are no longer available directly from the manufacturer so I order them from the classic center directly. Please keep in mind that Lemforder is who manufactured the engine mounts for Mercedes. So if you buy a genuine Mercedes engine mount you're buying a Lemforder engine mount.
I understand what this viewer means. I also replaced both engine mounts (lemforder), engine shock and it's smaller parts, and even engine stopper. And honestly, the shake at idle and start/stop isn't crazy better. Just slightly.
That shake is not because of your engine mounts and shocks it's because you probably need to replace your rack damper bolt. That is what limits the shake from the rack in the injection pump at idle. Crucial thing that everybody misses. If you're not familiar with it just look up some videos on UA-cam. Pretty easy to make an adjustment or replace the bolt. Highly recommended.
@@woodsandbarclayvery interesting... Will look up immediately. I usually just keep my "idle gauge" on the dashboard at max just to idle a bit higher to have it shake less. Am I understanding it correctly that this adjustment is different from an idle speed adjustment and is more about the pump and the engine being better synced at low rpm?
Just go on Google and type in w123 or 300D rack damper bolt. Learn about it. Has nothing to do with your idle speed.
Just bought a 1986 G wagen 300gd with the engine, thanks a lot for all the tips, my engine will be perfect thanks to you!!!!

No "Part 1" and no "Part 2"? WTF good are you? LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!
There are actually six videos already released on this vehicle and you can see them all on my UA-cam channel. If you're having a hard time finding the videos you can simply go to the website and click on the car and they are all there.
Boy I've been seeing that after trying to find a 300td wagon that is at least clean enough to be a candidate for getting back up to speed. But like you said , "This table full of parts is all stuff that needs to be replaced after 40 years but never is." While asking prices on some of these well used 300s are as if they are 100% ready to go like your finished cars that have been went through top to bottom!
People always think their car is "fully sorted" and "everything works". They never are.
I tell you what... I just brought an '84 300D TD. It's still at the transmission shop getting a swap out since the car came with a transmission to replace the current defective one. The price was right and she's going to be my spare hauler but I do toy with the idea of a daily driver. I pretty much comitted after driving a uhaul (for parts) and a dolly, yes dolly, up to Cumming. An hour and a half up and 3+ hours going around Atlanta on the backroads towing her backwards with the steering wheel tied to the driver's mirror keeping it on or under 50 mph. She sat for 4 years untouched after the previous owner bought it from a buddy of his and the boat storage site where it was stored is being developed and annexed into a neighborhood. Anyway, I'm digging all the videos and will be happy to take all those "good" parts that were removed from the Cali wagon, haha... I'd like to drive up to Roswell sometimes just to see all your cool stuff. Btw, selling my '74 280 to a friend who's coveted her for a while. She's been sittings in my garage for 14 years. She's at my mechanic Andy's shop to safely crank her and give her a once over...
Wow that was a lot of information in that comment. Sounds like you're having fun though! You definitely don't want to put these old parts from the callowagon on your car. They're on their last leg that's why I removed them!
Hey John, Can one use 75W90 differential oil in the W123? Or do you really recommend stay with 80W90?
You can use 75w90, 80w90, 85w90 etc. Any of those will be fine.
Do you still have this car?!
No this car sold last year.
Going through the exact same process with my 280TE. I had to outsource the SLS and a few other bits that required a lift, tools and experience. First project and your videos is literally a step-by-step guide for the wagon!
I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos ;) having a lift is definitely a game changer however all of this is possible on jack stands if you don't mind crawling around on the oily ground on your back. I probably did that for 10 years before getting a lift. Now there's no going back.
Very interesting you say you like the W116 better than the W126!
Absolutely the 116 is a better built car with better materials and better chassis.
And where did this Beauty end up at?
This one ended up in New Jersey
@@woodsandbarclay Cool! You have shipped a few Overseas also, right?

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
By the way I started a patreon page if you're able to contribute there's a link in the video description.
That is a lot of work on an old car, and yet these things are tanks and worth just about anything to maintain. I had an 85 turbodiesel sedan for 4 years in the early 2000s, and it had 280k miles on it and it was immaculate, when I traded it off for something fancier and faster. I felt the Merc was to much of an old man's car back then. Now that I am an old man, I wish I still had it and have ended up without any car. Did I miss you checking the hydraulic pump on that SLS, and where is it? I'm looking forward to more on this car. 😊
Yeah it's definitely a lot of work but when these things are taken care of they just run forever. The hydraulic pump is actually on the front of the motor and very rarely needs rebuilt until much higher mileage. It's all the stuff on the rear of the car that causes problems with the SLS system.
Wow, great demonstration.
Thank you I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos. I've started putting a patreon link and the video descriptions if you feel like contributing a little. It's a lot of effort making these videos but I'm going to keep doing it!
Very nice demonstration on the suspension system. Really have learned a lot from your vids, you make it look so easy but we all know it is not. I still have my 1985 W123 I am second owner, and it has been sitting in the garage since 2018. Have in-op starter motor, will tackle one day and get back on the road. Keep up the fine work you do and posting all this for us to follow.

Notice the car is Sold...Is it staying in the USA, Canada, Mexico, or Overseas? hehe
The car is now in Seattle Washington. The owner purchased it and drove it home across the country!
@@woodsandbarclay Wow. Must have been one Enjoyable ride!
Yeah I can only imagine!
@@woodsandbarclay Google Maps says thats around a 39-40 hour drive!!! hehe
Yep. Pretty awesome says a lot about these cars.
Surprised the 1985 wagon had the "older" style antenna (instead of the newer antenna with the electronic board) like in my 85 300D.
Yeah this design was unique to the wagon. Much more durable and reliable than the newer design that was installed in the coupes and sedans. The coupes and the sedans had a plastic antenna housing with a circuit board that often fails.
I own 190e carburetor, still runs good. And very reliable
Great car!
Having a W1 23 and to see this video he makes such of blessing to me
Thank you I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos!
Beautiful, what paint code is this please?
That's midnight blue paint code 904. The most popular classic Mercedes paint color. Everybody wants a midnight blue car!
Do you still have the 5 pleat seat bottom? The Euro cars with MB Tex maintained the 5 pleat front seats the entire production run. For some reason Mercedes made the 84 and 85 US/Canadian model year cars with MB Tex have the same pleat design as the leather seats front and back.
Yes absolutely. I still have the seat bottom but it will be used in a future project.
hi it's very nice to be owner for this kind of classic car my question is how much costs to buy me like this clean car I'm waiting your reply please and thanks
Please email me directly as I do not discuss business or pricing and UA-cam comments. Each car is priced differently depending how many parts and labor cost during the restoration. Mileage color and year also play a big factor. john@woodsandbarclay.com
Would you mind sharing the information on the temperature switch? I had to drill and tap my dryer cap to connect the original M6 temp probe to my dryer. I am filling mine with R290 gas and replaced the front fan. I think the fan is still not coming on soon enough.
Please email me directly and I can give you a part number I would have to look it up. john@woodsandbarclay.com

Hello, do you have Information which is the number for plastic cuffs/sleeves on SLS shocks for W123 Limousine?
I'm pretty sure the rubber covers that go over the hydraulic struts are no longer available. However this is not a unique part you can buy rubber covers for generic hydraulic shocks and attach them with clamps.
Ti nitko drugi nema.
That's a pretty cool story!
Over here in Europe, if I asked my garage to change all the parts you are changing it would be around 30k USD.
Yes completely refurbishing one of these cars is very expensive. Well I guess expensive is relative but refurbishing all the parts on one of these vehicles can easily be $30,000
So much priceless information here. These cars will still be running when humans are gone.
Thank you for the kind words I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos.
Can’t wait to see the transformation of this wagon 👌
Slowly but surely she's coming along!!!
Do you have a part number for AC refrigerant temperature sensor? Thanks
I would have to look it up I don't know it from memory. Best to just shoot me an email and then I can get back to you via email with the part numbers.
It appears that the compressor on my '84 W126 has recently started leaving a tiny puddle of oil on my garage floor. The R12 system is still super cold though. Do you recommend replacing the compressor and converting to R134, or should I find some R12 when I replace the compressor? Thanks you!
I would just get some more R12 and change out the compressor. R12 is readily available on Craigslist depending on what part of the country you're in. If you're changing out to compressor it's always a good idea to go ahead and change the receiver dryer just like I did in this video.
@@woodsandbarclay Thanks, appreciate it! I'm in PNW. I see R12 on CL occasionally, but usually in a large tank. I'll keep me eye out for a smaller quantity.
Wow. The test drive of this car will be epic! (And it is summer, so the new AC will talk loud and clear) Great video!
Yeah these original r12 systems are about four to six degrees cooler than the r134 systems. Don't get me wrong the r134 still works great and I have that in my daily driver classic Mercedes but the original r12 just takes it slightly colder.
@@woodsandbarclay Thanks for the explanation.

All you have to do is go to Google and type in 300D radiator and it should come up I don't know the part number off hand.
How much does Mercedes charge for those oe engine mounts?
I actually have a 20% wholesale discount but I think I pay $125 each.
@@woodsandbarclay despite costing 3 times the price of the lemforder ones. I would always buy them Mercedes stamped ones. Never compromised on the rubber parts as what I’ve noticed is the other suspension parts such as the ball joints and tie rod ends are fine from the oem vendors, but when it comes to rubber parts they either not feel that good as the Mercedes stamped ones or they don’t last as long as they should. Idk putting on those Mercedes genuine parts gives me the reassurance that I did the right thing and all of the problems in my life are solved. Lol maybe I’m losing it. What’s your experience been?
Lemforder is who makes them for Mercedes. Keep in mind Mercedes does not make parts. However you cannot buy them directly from Lemforder anymore and Mercedes has a bunch of New Old stock at the classic center. I literally called them and asked them who makes their parts and they told me lemforder. So always remember when you buy parts from Mercedes you're just buying a brand Mercedes does not make parts. Mercedes does not have a special manufacturing plant that makes parts for them. They are all made by third-party suppliers. There are certain things however that you cannot buy directly from the third-party suppliers so you're forced to go to Mercedes, even though the parts are made by the third-party suppliers. @@ZainFKiani
@@woodsandbarclay well yeah that would be true for the states. But over here in Pakistan the lemforder ones that are made in turkey are still available and are absolutely trash. You’d be lucky to get a year out of them. We normally prefer the NOS Mercedes parts in the old all blue packaging Mercedes had back in the day. During the 80’s amidst the soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Apart from the other equipment and support the Pakistani military received from NATO they also had a slough of w123’s and w460 g wagons. The w123’s had a very utilitarian spec. Most if not all were 4spd manual 240Ds with mb tex interior, crank windows, power steering, manual air conditioning, oil filed air filters and a unique and one of a kind raised and beefy suspension package with harder springs and shocks with increased ground clearance. Most of these w123’s had the light weight alloy wheels with the hubcaps. Not to be confused with the bundts. Even though the w123 fleet was phased out more than two decades ago but still to this day more and more of these rare NOS parts pop up from these military surplus auctions. In 2020 a mate of mine scored big on a NOS Dashboard and NOS unpainted hubcaps all packed in the Mercedes stamped boxes for 300 bucks..AN ABSOLUTE SCORE!!
Well you're referring to the parts made back in the 80s no matter what you cannot get parts that are the same quality as parts made back in the 80s even from Mercedes. Just made information about Pakistan!
